Call for Papers (extended until November 11)
The GEMInIS Journal, linked to the Federal University of São Carlos Post-Graduation Program in Image and Sound (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Imagem e Som – PPGIS) has opened the call for papers for its forthcoming edition, covering as main theme “Post-web Internet: the internet of things”. The thematic dossier addresses the current cultural, political, communicational and economical changes, induced by the emergence of ubiquitous digital networks, in which data and information are stored in clouds and can be accessed by any dispositive. In this context, in which the contents produced and consumed by users migrate from a platform to another, it’s pertinent to pay attention to this mediatic practices’ configuration, also observing the agencied assemblages of the most distinct communicational apparatus of subjectification.
The Internet of things reconfigures the old digital networks, based in a ecosystem that usually consisted of portals, institutional sites and personal webpages. It also potentiates Web 2.0’s user generated content production and sharing services, with platforms such as Youtube, Flickr, Podcasts, Wikipedia among others. At the post-web scenario, things and contents are connected through smartphones, tablets, ‘wearable computers’or apparatus attached to the bodies, like the Google Glass.
In this way, this dossier’s proposal dialogizes with the current moment and tendencies for the communications field, since this edition’s main theme is encountered in the most varied media spaces, and it could be related to multiple knowledge fields of study, like systemic theories, Big Data analysis, subjectivity’s production studies, post-humanism, control and datasurveillance mechanisms, as well as the remixing and hybridizing’s character of the pop culture in the networks.
